Burnley surpassed all expectations last season, finishing comfortably in 7th place in the Premier League and qualifying for the Europa League, but so far this season things are not going quite as smoothly. After the opening nine matches Sean Dyche’s Clarets are well off the pace in 13th place, and with only eight points from a possible twenty seven, many have questioned whether the early season Europa League exertions been a distraction and affected Burnley’s League form.
Burnley are not normally big scorers, but the exception to this came with a remarkable 4-0 home win against high flying Bournemouth. This, together with a win away at newly promoted Cardiff, are their only wins to date, together with draws against fellow strugglers Southampton and Huddersfield. Most would expect Burnley to tough it out under Dyche, and see themselves gradually rise up the table, but a heavy 5-0 loss at Man City will not have done much to help the mood.
