After Man City ran away with the Premier League in 2017-18 everyone was hoping for a tighter race this time round, and Liverpool have shown so far that they might be the team to challenge Pep’s blues. After the opening nine matches the only thing that separates them is goal difference, as the Reds sit joint top on 23 points. The only points Liverpool have dropped so far are against their two closest challengers, with tight draws against Chelsea and Man City.
Having never won the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp will not want to get too excited this early, but their form so far says they have a chance of challenging City for the title. Liverpool continue to offer a thrilling attacking style, but with new found defensive resilience helped by the arrival of star keeper Allisson, the reds are now able to grind out results as well – as they did last time out against a tough Huddersfield side, a match they may very well have drawn last season.
