New Year Blues
Chelsea have only lost once at home in the league against Burnley this century, and what an occasion it was. The opening day of the 2017/18 season, the Premier League champions against a team that finished 16th the previous year - there seemed to be only one possible outcome…
But against the odds, Burnley were 3-0 up at half time, thanks in part to the early sending off of Gary Cahill. There was a second half fight back, but the game finished 3-2 to the visitors, and Chelsea finished the match with 9 men, after Cesc Fabregas joined Cahill in an early bath - although in fairness the centre half had probably vacated it by then.
Burnley have had a stuttering 2019/20 campaign so far, and are part of the group of teams in the middle of the table looking nervously over their shoulders. Chelsea meanwhile have surpassed pre-season expectations, qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, and with their transfer ban lifted could even be fielding some new signings in this clash on Saturday January 11th.
If you want to enjoy this match from the comfort of one of Chelsea’s fantastic hospitality areas, we’ve got a range of packages available.
