Ancelotti to Everton?
Everton seem set to appoint the successor to Marco Silva this week - and it’s a man with a more impressive and extensive trophy haul than almost anybody in the modern game. Securing the services of Carlo Ancelotti would be a huge coup for Everton, particularly with Arsenal also looking for a new manager.
Everton have been in the shadow of their near neighbours Liverpool for a long time now - the last trophy they won was the 1995 FA Cup. But with a proposed new stadium being planned at Bramley-Moore Dock in the city, and a new manager who has won the Premier League, Serie A, the Bundesliga, and the Champions League (twice), perhaps the sleeping giant could be about to reawaken.
Since Silva’s dismissal, Everton’s talismanic interim coach Duncan Ferguson has secured a win and a draw from two potentially tricky matches against Chelsea and Manchester United, and it is thought that he will remain part of the coaching team if Ancelotti is appointed. Ferguson is a hugely popular figure at the club, with staff and spectators alike, and you’d imagine retaining his services would be a crucial bit of PR.
It’s perhaps ironic that the last match Ancelotti managed in the Premier League was at Goodison Park - a 1-0 defeat to Everton after which he was sacked by the London club - in spite of having the third highest win percentage in the history of Premier League management. If he does get the job, Everton fans will be hoping he can sprinkle some of his managerial magic on the blue half of Liverpool.
We’ve got a number of hospitality packages available in the 1878 Brasserie at Goodison Park, including the Boxing Day clash with Burnley, which you can see here, or give us a call on 01454 201210 to discuss the options.
