Once again a spirited display from Dean Smith’s side went unrewarded, as Villa lost in the final seconds against Tottenham; and once again VAR was one of the major talking points, overruling the on-pitch referee to award Tottenham a penalty in the first half. Reporters and football fans are fast running out of superlatives to describe the form of Villa captain Jack Grealish, who tormented Serge Aurier for long periods of the game, but if Villa fail to pull themselves clear of relegation this season it seems a certainty that Grealish will be playing his football elsewhere next season.
