Social media was awash with sarcastic Hammers fans after the postponement of the original fixture on February 9th, suggesting that it was the best result they could have hoped for from the game. With a run of pretty terrifying away fixtures at City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham coming up, realistically West Ham will have identified their home matches with Southampton and Wolves as being their best options of points. New first team coach Kevin Nolan is no stranger to a fight at the wrong end of the table, and will doubtless have been sharing his wisdom with the Hammers squad but it would take a brave man to predict David Moyes’ team coming away from the Etihad with anything at all. One consolation is that defeat for Aston Villa at the weekend keeps the Hammers just a point from the safe zone regardless of the result at the Etihad.
